FBC Podcast
Podcasting is a method of publishing audio broadcasts via the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed of new files (usually MP3s) which are updated on a regular basis. It has become increasingly popular since late 2004, largely to automate downloading of audio onto portable players or personal computers. Podcasting became more accessible to the general public once Apple built support into iTunes version 4.9.
Podcasting gives you the power to listen to the FBC sermons anywhere you take your portable MP3 player - in your car, on a bicycle ride, jogging, working outside, etc...
For people WITH Apple iPods, you'll need iTunes 4.9 or later.
When you start iTunes, if you do not see an entry for "Podcasts" in the left "Source" column, you will need to upgrade to version 4.9, which is free from http://www.apple.com/itunes
If you have an account in the iTunes Music Store, click the "Music Store" and then "Podcasts" under Genre.
In the "Category" column, select "Religion & Spirituality"
In the "Sub Category" column, select "Christianity"
Then browse through the alphabetical listing of available podcasts and locate the correct podcast for "First Baptist Church Of Greenville, SC" and click "Subscribe" (it's free). Confirm the Subscribe if it asks "Are you sure..."
If you don't have an account in the iTunes Music Store, you can also click Advanced, Subscribe to Podcast, and in the URL box, type http://www.firstbaptistgreenville.com/podcast/rss.xml
iTunes will jump over the Podcasts entry in the Source column. You'll see a list of the most recent sermons from the FBC Greenville, SC podcast. You should see the current one downloading with a fiery icon next to the sermon title.
Once the file is finished downloading, you can either listen to it in iTunes, burn to a CD, or sync to your iPod.
For people that have OTHER DEVICES than an Apple brand iPod, you should still set up the podcast feed in iTunes 4.9 and let iTunes manage your podcast(s). You'll have to start iTunes periodically to download the files each week.
This procedure requires Windows XP, Windows Media Player 10 and an mp3 player
that is supported by WMP10. Follow the rest of this procedure using the autoplaylist
feature of Windows Media Player 10, combined with Auto-synchronization to automatically
get the sermon clip onto your player. This procedure is a one time setup and after
that, you should be able to just connect your device with Windows Media Player
to sync the correct file and playlist created on your player.
Open Windows Media Player 10 in Windows XP.
Open Tools > Options and click the Library tab.
Click the Monitor Folders button, then click the Add button to browse to My Documents\My Music\iTunes\Podcasts. Click OK to add this folder to the WMP10 watch list. Keep clicking OK until you have closed the Options window.
Click on the Library tab, right-click the Auto Playlists header and choose New from the menu. This launches the Auto Playlist wizard.
Name your playlist.
Click the link to add criteria below Music in my Library. Create an auto playlist that includes the following by selecting More for the list of criteria.
File Name Contains My Documents\My Music\iTunes\Podcasts
That parameter automatically adds everything in the downloads folder (and sub-folders) to your Podcasts playlist. If you want to transfer all the content, you can stop right here and skip to Syncing To Your Portable Media Player. If you subscribe to more than one or two programs, your playlist will rapidly grow out of control.
Use this parameter to keep content fresh with the daily audio programming:
Date added To Library Is After Yesterday
The Auto Playlist only includes content downloaded on the current date. You can extend this a little bit by changing the parameter to Is After Last 7 Days.
Now it's time to connect your portable device and setup auto synchronization.
If you've never connected your portable device to setup auto synchronization, WMP10 will automatically prompt you to set up a profile. If you previously connected the device, you'll need to manually launch the wizard by clicking the Display properties and settings button.
Click the Settings button to launch the Auto sync device setup.
Choose Automatic and check the box next to Customize the playlists that will be synchronized.
Scroll through the list of available playlists until you find the Podcasts playlist. Check the box next to
Podcasts and click Finish.
Depending on the available space on your device, you may want to let WMP10 optimize the files during the transfer process. This is particularly important if a variable bit rate file was used for the channel programming, because many players don't support variable bit rate files.
At this point, WMP10 will automatically transfer audio to your portable media player. Each time you connect the device, WMP10 will compare the content on the device to the content on the playlist and automatically keep the files in sync.
