Sunday School

Sunday School at First Baptist serves a broad range of ages and needs. Serving the educational needs of a diverse and mobile congregation is a challenge that First Baptist seeks to meet through a variety of classes and departments. At each age level, opportunities for Bible Study, theological exploration, and spiritual growth are offered. Individuals are invited to explore the intersection between faith and everyday life. Each class is designed to provide age-appropriate, meaningful and challenging study, good fellowship, ministry opportunities and church involvement.

Children in our nursery are given loving care and attention so that their earliest experiences and memories of church are positive, safe and happy. Preschoolers are taught Bible stories and introduced to ideas about God, themselves, the world around them and relationships with each other using developmentally appropriate methods. Because consistency is important for a preschooler's development, a consistent group of teachers greets them with eager enthusiasm week by week. Elementary-school children are taught Bible skills so that they can better apply Biblical principles to their daily lives. Our families come from many different parts of Greenville. So getting to know one another is also a priority for Sunday School for our elementary age children.

Youth are challenged to explore all kinds of life issues in light of Scripture and to begin to think for themselves about God and faith. Teachers provide a variety of challenging study opportunities and topics designed to address the real life and faith needs of youth in today's difficult world.

Sunday School for adults offers a wide variety of options. Adults are not placed in a class on the sole basis of age. There are as many adult classes as there are adult approaches to learning, Biblical faith and theology. Some classes are Bible studies, some are topical discussions, some are taught in lecture format. Some invite guest speakers and teachers and still others follow a set curriculum. From time to time, guest speakers are invited to address combined groups of classes and/or the entire adult Sunday School ministry. This means that Sunday School for adults has a rich diversity, but it can be daunting to find the right match. Adults are invited and encouraged to "shop around" for a class that fits! ...and to ask for help in wading into the wide stream of choices!

Finding a place in Sunday School is important for more meaningful involvement. If you want more information about specific classes or options, please contact any of the following:
