Senior Minister Search
Ed Good, chair of the Senior Minister Search Committee, reports that
during the fall of 2012, the committee met
with individual Sunday School classes, church staff, the deacons, other church
groups and committees to listen to and engage with each other. A summary of their

The members of the committee include Greg Crowe, Tony McDade, Betty Stall, Judy Tollison, Jamie Womack and Jerry Wylie. The congregation approved the formation of this committee on Sunday, June 3, 2012. The committee plans to begin seeking resumes soon.
Baxter Wynn Named Interim Senior Minister
On Monday, December 3, 2012, the Diaconate approved a recommendation
from the Transition Committee that Baxter Wynn be appointed as interim
senior minister from now until the Senior Minister Search Committee completes
its
work.
A letter was mailed to members of the congregation with these details
on December 5. As part of the church’s continuing transition, his
appointment will provide:
Enhanced coordination/structure and communication for the staff and congregation
-
A spokesperson for the staff
-
A point person for prospective members
-
A “go-to” person for staff and committee issues
-
Someone who can speak to the congregation regarding stewardship and giving
-
A staff member to deal with public relations and other community needs
The deacon officers and the Transition Committee will monitor this interim appointment to gauge its effectiveness and offer any support that might be needed.
Transition Update
The Transition Committee and the pastoral staff have asked Janice Johnson,
minister of administration, to continue serving as staff coordinator even
as Baxter Wynn assumes the position of interim senior minister. The coordinator
role involves assisting the church staff in its day-to-day operations. Vivian
Hamilton, Kyle Matthews, Laura Stout, Frank Smith and Baxter Wynn are also
helping to cover specific responsibilities that were handled by the senior
minister.
The Transition Committee is charged with supporting the current pastoral
staff as they manage those day-to-day operations, assisting the pastoral
staff and worship planning team in arranging for guest ministers, hosting
and arranging accommodations for those guests, staying aware of and monitoring
any financial impact during the transition period and assisting with other
church transitions as needed.
