Standing Committees:
Activities
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Youth, the Activities and Recreation Director, and the Associate of Youth and Activities to plan and organize church sports and recreational activities and programs for the congregation.

Adult Education
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Christian Education in the planning, implementation and evaluation of church education programs specifically related to adults. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Affiliations
This committee shall monitor the activities and policies of the various organizations with which the church is or may become affiliated. It shall coordinate appropriate representation of the church to meetings of the affiliates. It shall coordinate with the Senior Minister to make recommendations to the Finance Committee concerning allocation of funds to these affiliates.

Children’s Ministries
This committee shall coordinate with Minister of Children and the Minister of Education to establish and carry out nurturing activities for school-age children in a Christian environment. These activities shall provide for the children’s growth in a spiritual, social, experiential and educational setting. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

College
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Youth and with the Associate in Youth and Activities to plan, direct and implement church programs specifically related to community, college and graduate students. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Communications
This committee shall coordinate with Director of Communications to study the communication needs of the church, both internal and external, and to plan and implement programs and/or printed materials to meet these needs.

Finance
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Administration and have joint responsibility for overseeing expenditures of church funds. In counsel with the staff, committee chairs and heads of other church organizations, the committee shall develop and propose the annual budget to the Diaconate and the church for approval. The chair serves on the Church Council.

Kindergarten
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Christian Education, the Kindergarten Director and the Kindergarten Director of Operations to establish policies for the operation of the Kindergarten. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Media Center
This committee shall coordinate with the Media Center Director to establish policies, to develop programs and to obtain volunteer staffing for the Media Center. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Membership
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Christian Education to orient and assimilate new members into the life and work of the church.

Missions
This committee shall coordinate with the Missions Coordinator to provide leadership, foster communication, promote involvement and educate church members in local, national and global missions. The committee shall have the responsibility for budget submittal and the expenditure authorization for all missions related finances. The chair serves on the Church Council.

Music & Worship
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Music and Worship to evaluate the music ministry of the church.

Personnel
This committee shall coordinate with the Senior Minister and the Minister of Administration to develop and administer personnel guidelines for all church staff personnel. It shall coordinate with appropriate staff personnel and search committees in the filling of staff vacancies. The chair serves on the Church Council.

Preschool Ministries
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Preschoolers and the Minister of Christian Education to establish and implement church programs related to preschoolers. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Property
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Administration and the Facilities Coordinator in the supervision of facilities maintenance and repair. The committee shall establish policies for the use of church facilities. The chair serves on the Church Council.

Receptions
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Administration and the Director of Food Services to plan and conduct all church-wide receptions.

Scholarship
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Pastoral Care and Missions to establish policies for and promote congregational involvement in scholarship funding. It shall receive and act on all requests for scholarship assistance.

Senior Adults
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Pastoral Care and Community Development to plan and implement special activities, programs and events for senior adults.

Singles
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Single Adults.

Spiritual Formation
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Christian Education to lead the church in the enhancement of spiritual lives, both individually and as a congregation. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Stewardship
This committee shall coordinate with the Senior Minister to develop overall member stewardship in church life and work. The committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Administration in the planning and implementation of the annual financial stewardship program.

Youth Ministries
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Youth and the Associate in Youth and Activities to plan and implement church programs specifically related to youth. The chair serves on the Christian Education Council.

Distinctive Purpose Committees:

This committee shall coordinate with the ministers in conducting the Ordinance of Baptism.

Communion
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Music and Worship in the preparation for the Ordinance of Communion.

Ministry to Families:This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Pastoral Care to provide care and assistance to members who are homebound, to adults who are not Sunday School members and have a transitional homebound status, and to caregivers.

The Ministry to Families Committee has several subcommittees:

§ Bereavement – This committee shall cooperate with the Pastoral Care Ministers to minister to the needs of church families at the time of a death in the family.
§ Freeze and Bake
§ Transportation
§ Visitation
§ Wednesday Night Supper Delivery This committee delivers supper to those who cannot come to the church for Wednesday Night supper.
Neighborhood Partnership
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Pastoral Care and Community Development and the Neighborhood Partnership Coordinator to plan and implement ministry programs to the residents of an inner city neighborhood.
Pastoral Counseling Advisory
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Pastoral Care and Counseling to evaluate the church-counseling ministry and to provide guidance for this ministry.
Prayer Group
Sanctuary Flowers
This committee shall, in coordination with the Minister of Music and Worship, be responsible for the provision of flowers in the Sanctuary each Sunday, and at such other worship services as may be requested.
Sanctuary Guild
Technical Operations
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Music and Worship to provide for the operation and maintenance if the sound, telecast, broadcast, lighting and recording equipment and facilities.
Ushers
This committee shall in coordination with the Minister of Music and Worship enlist and train ushers to serve at all regularly and specially scheduled worship services.
Wedding
This committee shall coordinate with the Minister of Music and Worship to schedule, coordinate and advise on weddings at the church.

Who's Who on the Committees

Our church has an extensive committee structure. Many important decisions are made and carried out by committee action. This is truly a church where every member is a minister. This year’s committee abided by the following guidelines in choosing new committee members:
1) members of First Baptist Church
2) membership on no more than one standing committee at a time
3) members who support the church through regular personal and financial participation.
