FURMAN UNIVERSITY – EXPLORATION OF VOCATION AND MINISTRY

Furman University, through the Office of the Chaplains, offers an Exploration of Vocation and Ministry (EVM) program for students considering a form of ministry in their vocational pursuits. Under the direction of Furman’s chaplains, the EVM program gives students opportunity to explore their interest in, call to, and fitness for professional ministry in a variety of fields. EVM's projects and activities offer many opportunities for engaged learning and act as a complement to formal classroom instruction.

First year EVM students participate in an orientation group, which meets weekly for discussion, reflection, and observation of ministry internship sites. These students also plan and lead the Sunday evening university worship services. All EVM students meet weekly for fellowship and discussion of various dimensions of ministry. EVM students confer with the chaplains each spring semester to evaluate their participation in the program and to plan a ministry internship for the coming year.

While many students in the program will anticipate entering seminary education following their time at Furman, other students will explore theological reflection while planning to live out their faith-based vocation in another area or discipline. Thus, the Exploration of Vocation and Ministry program is expected to be diverse.

First Baptist Church Greenville considers the Furman University EVM program to be one of our official Affiliates.
